Easter 2023: average basket price gets increased by 16.65% compared to the same period last year.

Easter 2023: Average basket price is on the rise! Skroutz, the leading online marketplace in Greece, has analyzed the online shopping behavior of consumers before Easter (1-16/4/2023). The report compares this year’s Easter period  to the same period last year (9-24/4/2022). The results show that during the period under review in 2023, the turnover generated by stores in the Skroutz increased by 12.76%.


Furthermore, the average price of consumers’ basket increased by 16.65%, reaching almost 60€. While the number of orders placed through Skroutz significantly increased by 40.52% compared to 2022. This trend highlights the growing preference for online shopping among consumers. Additionally, the data indicates that more and more consumers are opting for shopping through apps> In details, visits to the Skroutz app got increased by 67%, while visits to the website remained stable compared to last year’s Easter period.
Among the categories that garnered the most interest and showed the greatest increase in sales were white goods, with washing machines, dishwashers, refrigerators, and cookers & ovens topping the list.
More specifically, the list of the top 10 categories includes:

  • Washing machines
  • Dishwashers
  • Refrigerators
  • Cookers & Ovens
  • Kitchen Cookers
  • Domestic Air Conditioners Inverter
  • Televisions
  • Kitchen Extractors
  • Processors
  • RAM memories

Sales growth was particularly noteworthy in the “Washing Machines” category, which experienced an almost 800% increase compared to 2022.

Shopping behaviour factoids


The highest online shopping traffic occurred on Monday 03 April, a week before Holy Week, indicating a growing trend for last-minute online shopping. Skroutz also reported that more than 2,000 orders were placed using the “Buy Now, Pay Later” program. In this case the average order value landed at €400. At the same time consumers who chose Google Pay as a payment method made purchases worth an average of €45.
Delivery services offered by Skroutz also followed a similar pattern of increasing trend, with users choosing the Express Delivery service with an increase rate of 182.62%. Meanwhile, orders managed by the Skroutz Last Mile delivery service increased by 86%. It is noteworthy that nearly 3,000 deliveries were made through in-store pickup, a service that has gained significant traction in a short period of time.
